Nathaniel Hale grew up in Rochester, New York. Named after the legendary war hero, Hale’s father was an officer in the Air Force stationed at the McGuire AAFB. At a young age, Hale hated the military and what it stood for, but loved to fly. Hale began flying Cessna’s at age 14. Years of flying have given him a solid understanding of mathematics, weather patterns, geography, flight dynamics, some basic physics and mechanical skills.
All these skill sets are displayed in a myriad of ways throughout the series. When asked what he remembers, Hale recounts the memory of flying from Washington, DC to Toronto when he entered severe storms and turbulence with extremely poor visibility.
It was almost like flying through an ash cloud which seemed to come out of nowhere.

In preparation for the eventual production of The Vault, producer/director Sara Martins and cinematographer Tyson Burger took advantage of ideal weather conditions to shoot a series of camera tests, helping the creative team determine certain aspects of location, lighting, wardrobe, and makeup decisions.
The tests were filmed in 5K on a Red Dragon camera using Nikon AI-S lenses.
Movie Armaments Group, a Toronto based service provider helped provide wardrobe and select props for testing. See the full video here available in 4K UHD.
